Environment 3 : Pretorius’ Lab.

Characteristics I am aiming to : enclosed interior that feels almost suffocating and designed as a space of control rather than struggle, Absence of massive machinery in favour of contained tools and specimens.

I wanted to create an enclosed space with a clear delimitation. I liked the idea of using curved, ordered lines to put some contrast between Frankenstein’s castle and the lab, so I proceeded with my exploration sketches.

Of the two Iterations i chose the second one as I feel the curved shapes give a more enclosed feeling.

Final sketch : I proceeded in adding some shelves on the curved surface, some lab gear trying to keep it more industrial rather than grandiose.

Lighting:

For the lighting i chose a very soft form of lighting with reflections on the glasses and glass parts of the lab. The light comes from above, adding another cause for feelings of lack of air.

For the palette, I chose warm sandy colours and contrasting greens for the bottles and green-grey hues for the metal parts.

I tried to keep the palette calm, trying to focus on the contrast between sandy colours and the textures for the other parts of the lab and make it more readable.
